If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve postponed this event! We will send out information when we have a new date set!

When: June 11th, 5:00 PM - June 12th, 6:30 PM

Where: Immanuel Boone Campus

WHAT: Students will gather for a campout overnight (optional) and service project that will focus on educating them about the global hunger problem. From 12:00 PM on the 11th to 6:00 PM on the 12, students are encouraged to fast from food.

COST: The focus of this event is fundraising, and most of the event materials are provided to us for free from World Vision. Because of that, we provide this event for free, but we ask that you begin your fundraising with a personal gift of $40 to World Vision via your personal fundraising page. This amount feeds and cares for a child for a month. Any donations to help offset the cost of our "Break Fast" meal would be appreciated. Students should also bring water and sports drinks to hydrate throughout the night.

About This Event

The 30 Hour Famine has a long history at Immanuel United Methodist Church, and we are excited to revive it his year!

Here is a difficult fact to hear: 1 in every 10 people in the world do not have enough to eat.

We don't think it's right — so we're doing something about it through World Vision's 30 Hour Famine!

How the Famine works:

1. Students LEARN the truth about global hunger and discover what God wants us all to do about it.

2. We RAISE FUNDS to fight hunger (that's where YOU come in).

3. We grow closer to God and each other as we FAST FOR 30 HOURS.

4. LIVES ARE CHANGED because of the money we've raised!

So, what does this look like for us?

Though our event starts at 5:00 PM, we encourage our students to begin fasting at noon on Friday, June 11th. We will fast together until we break our fast with Holy Communion at 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 12th. Following our Communion service, we will share in a meal prepared by one of our amazing volunteers!

Before the event, we encourage students to fundraise through our team page via World Visions platform. $40 feeds and cares for a child for a month, $240 feeds and cares for a child for six months, and $480 feeds and cares for a child for a whole year!

During the event, we fast together, worship together, play together, serve together, and learn together about the issue of world hunger and what we, as followers of Christ, can do about it. On Saturday morning, our students will serve at our Immanuel Food Pantry at the Boone Campus!

After the event, we celebrate what we raised and encourage students to share their testimonies about the event to encourage others to take a stand against world hunger.

*A Note on the Optional Overnight - We will have an optional camp out style overnight in the field behind the Boone Campus. This will allow us to have the safest overnight possible, but will also serve as a learning opportunity as we include setting up our tents into our lessons for the event. For those students who do not wish to spend the night, they will be encouraged to continue fasting as they go home, and join us the following morning for our service project.
