Dr. Gustavo Carpinteyro-Lara

Credentials: DMA, University of Cincinnati; MM, Bowling Green State University; BM, University of Southern Mississippi, and LLCM, London College of Music.

Dr. Carpinteyro-Lara was born in Puebla, Mexico, and began his musical studies with his father at the Conservatorio de Musica del Estado de Puebla, Mexico. His principal teachers include Lee Fiser, Alan Smith, Paul York, and Richard Markson. Also, he has participated in master classes with Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Maud M. Tortelier, Yehuda Hanani, Joan Dickson, Stefan Popov, and Wolfgang Laufer. He has performed solo and chamber music recitals in Mexico, London, Glasgow, Hattiesburg, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati. He has been principal cellist of several orchestras such as: Middletown Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra, and Lima Symphony Orchestra. Also, he has performed with several orchestras around the world, such as, London College of Music Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica Carlos Chavez, Orquesta de Camara de San Angel, Gulfcoast Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra and Springfield Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Carpinteyro-Lara has an extensive experience teaching cello from beginning to college level. He has taught privately and in several institutions such as The University of Southern Mississippi Community Arts School, The Summer Music Institute at The Bowling Green State University, The BGSU Creative Arts Program, and Ohio Northern University. He believes that all student have high levels of learning potential. However, it is the responsibility of a teacher to guide and help every student to pursue and achieve his/her goals no matter how small or how large. The teacher works together with the student to discover how the cello works through a combination of cello technique, the laws of physics and gravity, and the music itself. Playing and teaching any instrument is a learning process that involves mental work, body awareness and the art of music making.

Dr. Carpinteyro-Lara enjoys going camping with his son, Rodrigo, and his wife, Marina.
